A fisherman’s life is measured by responsibility and risk. We live our lives on the ocean, and as a captain I am responsible for every outcome.  My family includes my wife, my children, my deckhands and the bountiful ecosystem of Southeast Alaska.

Our wooden vessel named Sword was built in 1927 and takes us out to sea.  We live aboard that boat and harvest halibut and salmon for you.

This is our story.

Ultra High Quality Wild Alaskan Seafood

Our fish is sustainably caught via hook-and-line fishing methods. We limit our catch to produce quality over quantity. We do not use nets and each individual fish is cleaned and iced immediately. We belong to a Fishermen's Cooperative that uses strict standards to produce the highest quality seafood available.

WHY BUY WILD ALASKAN SEAFOOD DIRECTLY FROM THE FISHERMEN?

1) We beat average retail prices by 20% or more!

We offer our salmon and halibut at reduced prices because we have been able to successfully remove the middlemen.  In recent years, fishermen have only received two dollars per pound upon selling our fish at the dock. The grocery store then sells our fish for twenty dollars a pound or more at retail. We hold most of the risk but have been cut-out of the profits. By working together, fishermen can make a living wage and fish lovers can eat reasonably priced seafood.

2) It’s truly wild & Alaskan.

A recent DNA study has shown that 43% of all salmon is mislabeled and sold fraudulently in America. One of the best ways to avoid seafood fraud is by purchasing fish directly from a fisherman. The fish you receive from the Sword is not farmed fish and is truly wild and Alaskan.

3) Wild seafood is (much!) healthier than farmed fish.

Farmed salmon has five times as many toxins (PCB’s and Dioxins) as any other meat product in the grocery store.  Meanwhile, wild fish is full of nutrients, low in saturated fat, and high in essential vitamins and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

4) Flash frozen fish is the freshest fish!

Modern techniques allow us to process salmon and halibut to seal in its ocean flavor.  We flash freeze each individual portion immediately upon making landfall. Flash freezing allows us to arrest the degradation of the product and allows you to avoid the aging product at your local fish counter. Testing by Seafood Analytics has shown flash frozen product is superior to its “fresh” counterparts in flavor and quality.

Seafood Offerings

Explore our season's catch & offerings below.

  • WILD CAUGHT ALASKAN COHO SALMON

Coho salmon is primarily found on the coast of Alaska and British Columbia. Compared to its close relative, sockeye salmon, coho has a higher oil content, firmer texture, and more flavorful taste.  Coho’s orange-red flesh and rich, oily flavor make it a perfect fit for the grill. We don’t use nets and handle each fish individually, maintaining the coho’s beauty and avoiding bruising.

  • WILD CAUGHT ALASKAN HALIBUT

Pacific halibut is found on the continental shelf of the North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea.  It has a sweet, pure flavor that melts in your mouth when properly prepared. Halibut is a lean and flakey fish that can be grilled, fried, poached or steamed to perfection.  It is The MOST versatile fish available. Photo courtesy of Alaska Seafood.

  • Wild Alaskan Spot Prawns

Spot Prawns are caught in the inner bays and passages of Southeast Alaska.  They are known to be among the sweetest shrimp on the planet.  Our friend Louie on the New Adventure catches them in pots instead of nets in order to produce the most sustainable catch!

  • WILD CAUGHT SMOKED SALMON

Caught in the pristine waters of the Gulf of Alaska, our coho is filleted, brined and carefully smoked.  A salty, caramel flavor accompanies the rich natural oils of the fish.  It can be eaten as a snack or as part of a tasty entrée.

  • Wild Caught Alaskan Lingcod

This is not your traditional cod.  Despite its name, Lingcod is actually a member of the greenling family.  It is a leopard-printed fish that is found primarily near rock ledges and pinnacles in the North Pacific.  It has a medium-firm texture with delicious, large flakes.  It's flavor profile is mild and sweet which means that it can be poached, pan-fried, grilled or added to your favorite chowder.

  • WILD CAUGHT ALASKAN YELLOWEYE

Yelloweye is a bright orange rockfish that  is abundant in the deep waters off the coast of Alaska.  It has a sweet, white, flaky meat that truly makes it a fisherman's favorite.  Yelloweye absorbes marinades, wood smoke and other flavors beautifully.  It is also a fine choice for fish tacos.
